Swimming UpstreamBev Barnett
fiberart sculpture, 2022 Swimming upstream isn’t for everyone. For the courageous who dare it means constant forward, upward motion. Fighting the current. Gliding through seemingly endless waves with a grace that barely ripples the surface. Sometimes, the reward for a job well done is simply to pause and appreciate the lessons of the journey, knowing that we’ve always held the key. Linen and canvas scraps, vintage lace, and silk are re-imagined with rust, fresh-leaf indigo, eucalyptus and onion skins. Textile scraps from a wine bottle gift bag and used guitar strings add a bit of pizzazz, and an antique skeleton key anchors the piece. |
